About Book:
With film studies taking the centre stage and becoming a significant paper within the discipline ‘Journalism and Mass communication’, there is a rising demand and need for a comprehensive book that will deal with basic concepts of film theories and production. Keeping this need in mind, the book is an edited volume which will introduce the basic concepts of film production and theories to the beginners. The highlight of this book is a detailed overview of key foreign film movements and important landmarks in the journey of Indian films with special reference to notable directors and their contributions. The book attempts to throw light on the basic technical aspects of film making as well. A section of the book has also been devoted to emerging concepts in the discipline like focus on film marketing and new technologies, convergence, and the rise of OTT. This book will serve as an introductory guide for any student of media studies interested in film.

Editors Profile:
Dr. Debastuti Dasgupta is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Asutosh College, Kolkata, affiliated under the University of Calcutta. She has done her Graduation from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, and Post Graduation from the University of Calcutta in Journalism and Mass Communication and stood first class second in order of merit. She is a UGC NET scholar and has completed her Ph.D. on Social Media and Bengali Film Promotions from Visva Bharati, Santiniketan. Other than several research papers in national and international peer-reviewed journals and chapters in the renowned books, she has contributed modules for E PG Pathsala, an initiative of the MHRD under its National Mission on Education through ICT (NME-ICT) being executed by the UGC on the topic Gender and Media. Her main area of research is New Media, Film Marketing, Film Audience, etc.

Dr. Priyanka Roy has completed her graduation from Asutosh College, affiliated to the University of Calcutta with Journalism and Mass communication as the honors subject. She has done her post-graduation degree from the Centre of Journalism and Mass Communication (CJMC), Visva Bharati, Santiniketan with distinction. She passed UGC NET in 2013. Dr. Roy completed her Ph.D. from the Centre for Journalism and Mass Communication (CJMC) in 2018. She has a teaching experience of six years. She worked as a lecturer in Journalism and Mass Communication at the East Calcutta Girls’ College, Laketown, Kolkata from the year 2010 to 2016. She was a part of the editorial team of two published books- ‘Voice of Social Media in Democracy: An Anthology’ and ‘Media Ethics-Reality or Myth? : A Collection of Essays’. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Asutosh College, Kolkata.
